I rose from my bed (ok clearly not my bed, my sofa) this morning feeling quite positive.  By the end of each day I am so tired that it’s all I can do to drag myself to bed and as you can see from the picture, last night it didn’t happen.  For the last couple of days I’ve been doing some ‘proper’ exercise on top of the dog walking I do for a living and the fortnightly riding lessons and I am feeling it. So having woken up feeling achy but otherwise well I am now planning my day.  I’m not sure how many of you do this. I guess for most people it’s a simple matter of getting up, going to work, coming home, then doing what needs doing, but I have always planned. So my plan for today:

  1. Take medicine – check
  2. Have something to eat with second hot drink of the day – check
  3. Get bathed and dressed
  4. First paid job of the day
  5. Second job cancelled so go to town.  Pay in cheques.  Go to book shop
  6. Third paid job
  7. Fourth paid job
  8. Fifth paid job
  9. Home for car windscreen replaced
  10. Possible 6th job?  Confirm this
  11. Make dinner
  12. Tidy up
  13. Visit Father in Law
  14. Make jewellery – have designed earrings I want to make
  15. Husband home?
  16. Write some poetry
  17. Go to BED

How much of this from no 11 onwards actually happens is anyone’s guess but that’s the plan.  The least enjoyable part of the day is visiting my Father in Law, but that is also the task that will lead to the most amount of guilt if I don’t do it.  How apt that it comes in at No 13!

And today’s ultimate challenge?  No. 17 – To make it to bed

My gift that keeps giving (or should that be making?) February 20, 2012

I’ve been getting back in touch with my ‘crafty’ side and thought I would share some of my jewellery making with you today.  My husband bought me a ‘Wire and Bead’ jewellery making day as a gift and below is the first piece I ever made.

Just last week I bought some lucky bags from Claire’s Accessories, in the hope that there would be some pieces I could take apart and reinvigorate but alas there was only a couple of things.  Until I have taken those apart and made something fabulous with them and my stash of beads here’s a few older pieces…

My home made Migraine remedy, and others February 6, 2012

I’ve been waking up these last few days with a migraine. When there’s no tablets to hand, or the tablets just aren’t doing their thing I have a little remedy that helps and it’s unusual.

My little trick, and it won’t work for everybody, is to have a strong coffee, a bar of chocolate and a large drink of cola.

One of the main active ingredients you’ll find in Migraine tablets is caffeine. Don’t believe me? Look here – http://www.drugs.com/condition/migraine.html That’s why the coffee and cola work for me. There’s also a small amount of caffeine in chocolate. The sugar in the cola and chocolate give me a boost and somehow that gets me through the worst.

That got me thinking. What other unusual remedies do I use? A couple sprang to mind immediately that I thought I’d share.

The next one is a cure for hiccups. It shocks most people when I tell them about it but it’s never failed me. My cure is a teaspoon of malt vinegar. If one doesn’t work I will occasionally take two or three, but it’s rare that I need to take more and it always works. I don’t know why and frankly I don’t care!

The other remedy that I thought of is something I was told about roughly 13 years ago when my first born was in nappies / diapers. It’s a remedy for nappy / diaper rash that’s a little bit ‘out there’ but stick with me.

If your child has nappy rash you coat their rear in egg white. Yes, you read right! I said egg white. If, like me, you have a child whose behind is so sore it’s cracking (as it can do when teething happens) you are desperate for something that will help, but even I admit putting raw egg on broken skin is scary. BUT my son was almost free from rash within 24 hours!

The logic is this: egg white is the amniotic fluid of a bird and your baby has been floating in your equivalent for 9 months. It doesn’t sting when you put it on your babies skin for that reason and when egg white is exposed to air it dries in to a waterproof layer. How about that? A natural, waterproof, chemical free layer that protects the skin. How great is that?
